March 26-May 31, 2002 --  The Spirit's Journey Begins in San Diego

The San Diego Aerospace Museum is heading up the activities which include a major exhibit featuring Lindbergh memorabilia, media events from historic locations in San Diego, and a lecture series entitled "Celebrate the Lindbergh Legacy™" honoring Charles Lindbergh's historic accomplishment from a variety of perspectives.

Beginning on March 26, Dan Clemons, an avid Lindbergh historian and collector, opens the series presentation of the flight using Lindbergh's own words.  The next lecturer, Erik Lindbergh, is the grandson of Charles Lindbergh.  On April 12, he approaches the Lindbergh legacy from a personal point of view, speaking about his plans to recreate his grandfather's flight beginning with an April 14 takeoff from San Diego's Lindbergh Field.  Duke Dufresne, vice president of Unmanned Systems for Northop Grumman Ryan Aeronautical Center, will speak on April 30.  His presentation with connect Ryan's latest innovative monoplane, the Global Hawk, with its most acclaimed, the Spirit of St. Louis.

Information and registration forms are available online at www.aerospacemuseum.org, or from the Museum's Education Department 619.234.8291, ext. 19.

The San Diego Aerospace Museum plans to enhance its current display of Lindbergh memorabilia by including additional artifacts, collectibles, and art.  Many of the items have not previously been on display, including a very special crystal model of the Spirit of St. Louis.  The exhibit will open on April 1 and run through May 31.

On May 18, the museum will celebrate the arrival of the Global Hawk as Northrop Grumman Ryan Aeronautical Center presents a half-scale model of this unique aircraft for display in the Rotunda.  The Global Hawk will be suspended above the Spirit of St. Louis, representing the evolution of Ryan designs and commemorating the 75th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's historic flight.  Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham will be the keynote speaker at the dedication.
