May 11, 2002 --  Re-creation of the Spirit Landing in St. Louis

To recognize St. Louis' role in the famous flight, a replica of the Spirit of St. Louis  will land at Lambert International Airport in St. Louis, where Lindbergh had been flying the airmail and built his financial base for the New York-to-Paris flight.  Its landing at the historically accurate time of 8:20 a.m., will commemorate Lindbergh's return to acknowledge his financial backers and make final preparations for his flight.  From 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. the public is invited to Spirit of St. Louis Airport in Chesterfield, Mo., to view the plane and meet the pilot.  Representatives from the Experimental Aircraft Association will also be on hand to greet visitors.  This event is free and open to the public.  The San Diego to St. Louis trip established a record flight time of 14 hours and 25 minutes for a 1,500 mile trip.
