Long

May 18-19,
2002 -- Re-creation of Spirit Test Flights in Long Island
Republic Field on Long Island is the site of the Spirit's final
landing in the U.S. (Unfortunately, Curtiss Field where Lindbergh actually
landed is now a shopping mall.) Just as Charles Lindbergh did in 1927, the Spirit
will make symbolic "test" flights over Long Island during these days
as Lindbergh did while he waited for the weather to clear.
May

Annual Lindbergh Award Event
The newly opened Cradle of Aviation Museum will be host to the Foundation's
25th annual Lindbergh Award Event. The Museum houses a Ryan Brougham Spirit
which Lindbergh and Jimmy Stewart flew in during the filming of the movie
"The Spirit of St. Louis" as well as Lindbergh's restored Jenny, his
first aircraft, bought in 1923. The dinner will honor the 25th
Lindbergh Awardee, Dr. Thomas E. Lovejoy, Senior Advisor to the president of
the United Nations Foundation and Chief biodiversity Advisor to the
president of The World Bank. He is also the founder of the popular
public television program, Nature. Invitees include: Neil Armstrong,
Dr. Sylvia A. Earle, Sir Edmund Hillary, Arthur C. Clarke and others.

75th Anniversary and Re-creation of Spirit's
Take-off on Lindbergh's New York-to-Paris Flight
Near the site on Long Island where Lindbergh started his famous journey, and
at exactly 7:52 a.m. (weather permitting), a Spirit replica will
take-off and symbolically fly over the site of Roosevelt Field, barely
clearing the telephone wires, just as it happened 75 years ago.
(Unfortunately, Roosevelt Field is now a shopping mall.)
