Seattle, Washington

May 11, 2002 --  Original Lindbergh Radio Play Premiered Live

The Museum of Flight will host a live premier of the original radio play, Spirit: The Story of the Spirit of St. Louis.  The play will be performed by the Radio Enthusiasts of Puget Sound (REPS) and is being written by REPS member Joy Jackson.  Drawing on Lindbergh's Spirit of St. Louis and other supplementary materials, the one-hour play focuses on the drama of Lindbergh's struggle to build an aircraft to compete for the Orteig Prize.  The text of actual telegrams and newspaper articles of the day is woven into the script to heighten the audience's sense of being present through the trials and tribulations Lindbergh faced before ever leaving the ground on his historic flight.  Spirit will be performed live in the Museum of Flight's 275-seat William M. Allen Theater, and the performance will be broadcast on KIXI-AM, Seattle, on May 18, 2002.
